Fitness Advertorial
I thought I'd do a quick post about a shoot last week for an advertorial publication here in Phoenix. If you aren't familiar with the term advertorial, it's basically an editorial article written in a magazine that the subject of the article pays for. It's content for the magazine and it's a good ad for the client. This particular shoot will be a cover shot and feature spread in the April issue.

Heather MacLean for Residential Executive Magazine
In October, I did a shoot for one of my very regular clients, a media company based here in Phoenix that publishes several different magazines. When I do these feature or cover shoots for this client, I typically will get a date and time to shoot, and zero to few other details. I have a great bit a freedom creatively, however I usually have very little time with the subjects and the locations only vary between inside an office building and outside of an office building. Finally, a shoot that mixed things up a little bit...

Goodbye 2012 - Hello 2013
Wow, 2012 was just a whirlwind. I can't believe it's almost March of 2013. Now that I can officially look back / reflect on the previous year, I am both proud and disappointed. I think I accomplished every business goal I set for last year, and have some images and tearsheets that I'm very happy with, but a few things that should have been better as well.

Phoenix Children's Hospital here is Phoenix is coming up on it's 30th anniversary. To commemorate that, the hospital is putting together a book that documents "a day in the life" style look into how every aspect of the hospital operates. Commercial Real Estate "In Action"
Last week I received a call from the CEO of a commercial real estate firm here in Phoenix. I had worked with them twice before, the first time being on an editorial assignment, and then I did their updated headshots about a year ago.
The firm is merging with a national level brokerage firm and needed new headshots that matched the branding of the new company. The assignment called for black and white images, pretty tightly cropped, and most importantly - they needed to be "action" shots. Action shots of office work.... How hard could that be?

Photo Series "At Work"
I'm working on a new photo series comprised of portraits of people in their work environments. I started by consolidating into a single folder all the portraits I have taken that fit that category well, and will begin shooting new work just for this project.
I have been looking for a long-term personal project for a little while, and I think this one will be a great fit.
Some of the images below will seem familiar, I've blogged about several of these shoots, and several images are new to the blog. Check it out and let me know what you think...

Shooting Pablo
On Friday I received an email from an editor asking if I could do a last-minute shoot with a celebrity that would be in town for only a few hours. I didn't have much to go on, and the next day (which would be the day of this shoot) I already had 3 shoots and quite a bit of traveling between them. So I simply replied with what my availability would be and it happened to fit perfectly with "the celebrity's" schedule.

Good Images Can Happen Anywhere
I just finished processing the final images from a headshot session last week. The location wasn't exactly ideal, and the temperature was far from comfortable. It would have been easy to let the conditions prevail, but we kept the upper-hand.
It comes down to making the situation work for you. The location wasn't usable, so I set up a background. I went with simple on this one, subtle backgrounds and minimal lighting (often no artificial lights at all, just natural light).

Superhero Cover
I got a tweet from the art director of Fire Chief Magazine last Friday, asking about my availability to shoot a last second cover. I said I could shoot it over the weekend, and that I just would needed the concept and I was gonna take care of it.
